New location for St. Catharines clinic

August 26, 2019 — As of September 1st, 2019, the McMaster Niagara Family Health Centre will be moving from its current location downtown St. Catharines to the first floor of Branscombe Mental Health Centre building, just west of the St. Catharines Hospital.
As a part of the Niagara North Family Health Team, this new location will continue to provide high quality health services to the St. Catharines community. The centre’s patients will continue to have access to an interdisciplinary team including a physician assistant, nurse practitioners, psychiatrists, dietitians, and social workers.

“This move is an exciting opportunity to meet expanding patient needs and we look forward to remaining engaged as a part of the St. Catharines downtown core and the many patients we serve,” said David Price, chair of the Department of Family Medicine of the Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine.

This centre is a key site of the McMaster Niagara Regional Campus which trains both family medicine residents and undergraduate medical students. The centre will continue to play an important role in ensuring residents and medical students develop their skills in an interdisciplinary environment that focuses on providing patients with the best care possible. Training medical students and residents also occurs in many family physicians’ offices throughout the City of St. Catharines and the Niagara Region.

A new development in the downtown core is bringing primary care to homeless shelters to serve some of the regions most vulnerable. REACH Niagara: Regional Essential Access to Connected Health is a collaboration between a number of community partners. Dr. Karl Stobbe, the site director for the Niagara family medicine residency program, is one of the project leads. The initiative currently offers clinics in three shelters in St. Catharines with plans to expand to Welland and Niagara Falls.

The Branscombe Mental Health Centre also houses Pathstone Mental Health, which provides mental health services and counselling to adolescents and children. The building will also be home to the Niagara North Family Health Team Diabetes Care Team and the Pathway Pharmacy.
