Academic Family Physician with an Interest in Obstetrical Care
The Department of Family Medicine invites applications for a full time academic family physician with a keen interest in obstetrics to join the McMaster Family Health Team. The McMaster Family Health Team is comprised of two clinical teaching units: McMaster Family Practice (MFP) and Stonechurch Family Health Centre (SFHC), and works collaboratively with The Maternity Centre of Hamilton. Together, these busy practices cover the spectrum of care in family medicine and provide early exposure for learners to an interprofessional practice environment.
At MFP and Stonechurch, educational opportunities and excellence in clinical practice are emphasized through our “team” approach to primary care. Within these units, you will be supported in your work by the expertise of a talented Family Health Team including nurse practitioners, nurses, social workers, dietitians, pharmacists, psychiatrists and a lactation consultant.
The Maternity Centre of Hamilton provides comprehensive maternal care through a team of physicians, nurse practitioners, social workers and a lactation consultant. This collaborative model allows for sustainability of full intrapartum care for family physicians with minimal lifestyle and occupational disruptions. As a teacher in the Centre you will further develop your residents understanding of obstetrical care and successfully prepare them for this aspect of their future practice. You will share call with 10 other physicians at the Maternity Centre, supervising residents at St. Joseph’s Hospital for deliveries.
In your educational role, you will act as clinical supervisor, mentor and role model to residents, medical students and other McMaster learners. In addition to teaching, your academic responsibilities will include contributing to the overall administrative and scholarly development of the department and participating in research activities.
The Department of Family Medicine encourages our Faculty to model a commitment to lifelong learning and we offer protected time for you to pursue your teaching, research and academic interests in a supportive environment. Opportunities for professional development are available on a continual basis through our Faculty Development Program, which organizes lectureships, workshops and Faculty retreats on emerging topics in academic family medicine.
In your leisure time, Hamilton and its surrounding communities provide relaxing outdoor recreational activities and the same high quality cultural, sports and entertainment events found in large urban centers.
The successful candidate must have a CCFP and a license to practice in Ontario. Comprehensive family medicine experience is a requirement with a commitment to the provision of full care obstetrics preferred. Academic rank and salary will commensurate with qualifications and experience.
