2008-2009 Award Winners
The Department of Family Medicine is proud to acknowledge our many award winners. Our congratulations go to the following:
Awards: National
Dr. Dale Guenter Geeta Gupta Equity and Diversity Award. The award recognizes the achievements of an outstanding family physician (CFPC member or group of members) who has shown leadership and advanced awareness working in his or her practice and community to foster respect and understanding of a minority or under-serviced population.
Drs. Cheryl Levitt, David Price and Elizabeth Shaw 2009 Award of Excellence from the College of Family Physicians of Canada. The award recognizes CFPC members who have made an outstanding contribution to patient care, community service, hospital or health care institutions, College activities, teaching, research or other elements of the academic discipline of family medicine.
Drs. Juan Munoz, Jonel Miklea, Michelle Howard, Russ Springate and Janusz Kaczorowski CFPC Outstanding Family Medicine Research Article of 2008 award.
Dr. May Cohen and Dr. Brian Hutchison CFPC Life time Achievement Awards in Family Medicine Research.
Dr. David McCann Physician of the Year by the American Academy of Disaster Medicine in June 2009.

Dr. Linda Lee 2009 Family Physician of the Year, Southwestern Ontario and 2009 Service Award for Geriatric Excellence.
Centre for Family Medicine, Family Health Team (Kitchener-Waterloo) 2008 Ontario Practice of the Year.
McMaster Family Health Team 1st Runner up for the Inaugural Practice of the Year.
Dr. Les Solomon OMA Glenn Sawyer Service Award. This award is given to an individual who has rendered significant service to the OMA at the medial profession or public at the community level.
Awards: Local
Dr. Mohamed Alarakhia Ted Evans Scholarship Award. The award recognizes his outstanding practice in the four principles in Family Medicine.
Dr. Danielle Derrington-Fraser St Joseph’s Healthcare Best Resident Award in Family Medicine.
Drs. Carolyn Fuss and Taryn Williams Residency Leadership Award for the Kitchener-Waterloo Area.
Dr. Arshad Hack Residency Leadership Award for the Stonechurch Family Health Centre.
Dr. Ravinder Ohson Jim Morris Award. This award is given based on student nominations of a community preceptor who has demonstrated excellence in undergraduate teaching.
Dr. Alessandra Palombo Residency Leadership Award for Community Based Residency Training.
Dr. Tejal Patel Residency Leadership Award for McMaster Family Practice.
Dr. John Reaume Gerry Cohen Teaching Award. This award recognizes clinical teaching excellence and commitment to residency education.
Dr. Myles Sergeant Preclerkship Award of Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching.
Dr. Nicole Shadbolt Residency Leadership Award for Rural.
Dr. Jitin Sondhi Family Medicine Leadership Award and the Residency Leadership Award for the Brampton Area.
Dr. Dave Waldbillig Kitchener-Waterloo preceptor of the year.
Dr. Heather Waters Excellence in Tutoring Award in Undergraduate Teaching.
Dr. Brianna Wilson Ben Finkelstein Award for her outstanding contribution to the psychosocial aspect of family medicine.
