Care of the Elderly

The Care of the Elderly (COE) Program in the Department of Family Medicine is committed to providing the highest quality educational experiences for residents and to exploring best practice for delivering services to elderly patients in the primary care setting.

The COE Program is comprised of a group of core faculty members with an interest in elder care, that are continuing to develop curriculum innovations at all sites across the Family Medicine program.

Research projects are ongoing to explore models of service delivery and teaching that best integrate the principles of effective COE practice into the broader framework of Family Medicine.

Residents are exposed to the unique aspects of elder care in a variety of settings during their 2 year residency program, including Long Term Care, Office Based Care of the Elderly, a core geriatrics rotation and on off service rotations such as internal medicine and emergency medicine.
