Grand Erie Six Nations (GE6N)

GE6N Clinical Education Campus

200 Terrace Hill Street
Brantford, ON, N3R 1G9 Directions

The Grand Erie Six Nations (GE6N) site is the most recent addition to the McMaster Family Medicine Residency Program. We have been a teaching site for many years with learners coming from both the Hamilton and Waterloo campuses, prior to the Residency Program. The GE6N program emphasizes community and preceptor based training in family medicine. The curriculum follows the traditional block rotation format.

The academic hub for the Grand Erie Six Nations (GE6N) residency program is located in the Brantford General Hospital. All GE6N residents come together for Evidence-Based Medicine rounds, Academic Half-Day teaching and Mental Health and Behavioural Science programming.

Core Family Medicine clinical teaching sites are located in Brantford, Delhi, Paris and Six Nations with options to go to Simcoe.  Residents indicate their location preference via an internal match following the CaRMS match.  The internal match is designed to assist in matching residents with supervisors that share the same interest.

  • Presence of the Six Nations on the Grand River, a First Nations community based in Oshweken near Brantford.
  • An Aboriginal component to the curriculum at the site, which has been developed and is delivered by local faculty and community members. This component is experienced throughout residency, including through EBM, MHBS, Noon Rounds, Aboriginal Welcome sessions and site visits.
  • Simulation lab monthly sessions led by local Emergency physicians.
  • Point-of-Care Ultrasound course available for all GE6N residents to complete the at a reduced resident rate.
  • 1:1 preceptor to resident ratio in a community-based learning environment.
