We’re moving to the McMaster Health Campus!

Effective April 15, 2015:

McMaster Health Campus
100 Main Street West, 6th Floor
Hamilton, ON L8P 1H6

Part-time faculty members, provided they meet Department and Faculty provisions, may be promoted to a higher rank (Associate Clinical Professor, Clinical Professor), and the process will normally take place concurrently with reappointment.  The promotion process follows the same that is used by full-time faculty, with the exception that the approval process ends in the Faculty of Health Sciences.

Part-time faculty members in the Department of Family Medicine are eligible for promotion based on the following criteria:

Promotion from Assistant Clinical Professor to Associate Clinical Professor

  1. Must contribute a minimum of 270 hours of clinical teaching per year or a teaching course load equivalent  to nine (9) units of undergraduate teaching per year; and
  2. Must contribute a minimum of six years of service (starting from the appointment’s effective date). The candidate must be teaching at or above the minimum hourly contribution level in a Leadership capacity; or
  3. Must contribute a minimum of nine years of service (starting from the appointments effective date). The candidate must be teaching at or above the minimum hourly contribution level in a Clinical Educator capacity.

Promotion from Associate Clinical Professor to Clinical Professor

  1. Must contribute a minimum of 270 hours of clinical teaching per year or a teaching course load equivalent  to nine (9) units of undergraduate teaching per year; and
  2. Must contribute a minimum of six years at the rank of Associate Clinical Professor i. The candidate must be teaching at or above the minimum hourly contribution level in a Leadership capacity; or
  3. Must contribute a minimum of nine years at the rank of Associate Clinical Professor. The candidate must be teaching at or above the minimum hourly contribution level in a Clinician Educator capacity.

Please note that the promotion process is not available to those of the adjunct rank.  However, if a faculty member increases his or her educational contributions to meet the required 100 annual weighted hours at the time of appointment renewal, an application to the Department of Family Medicine can be made to have the appointment rank changed to Assistant Clinical Professor or Lecturer (Part-Time).

This would be treated as a new appointment at the Assistant Clinical Professor or Lecturer (Part-Time) rank, and the following documents would be required:

  1. R4 – Mutually Agreed Responsibilities form
  2. CV in McMaster format
  3. Three reference letters
  4. Statement of good standing with regulatory authority

Please see our Candidate Toolkit, which provides those going forward for promotion with helpful resources with respect to the process and the documentation required.
