Practice Based Small Group
Practice Based Small Group (PBSG) learning program was developed in 1992 to provide academic support to practising family physicians to define and satisfy their own learning needs in a small group format. Residents participate in PBSG modules within their family practice unit. Residents participate in PBSG in order to maintain and enhance their professional knowledge and competence and to integrate that knowledge into their practice through the development, dissemination and evaluation of educational approaches and materials that are learner centred and practice based, using evidence based educational principles. In a recent year end survey, the use of PBSG was rated as strength of the program by residents. For more information about PBSG or a list of the module topics, visit the Foundation for Medical Practice Education’s website at www.fmpe.org.
