Geriatrics

Geriatrics is a one-month core rotation done in the second year of the Family Medicine residency.  The goal is to develop an understanding of the aging process, the role that function plays in health status, and key issues in drug management for the elderly. The resident works in a variety of situations with ambulatory elderly patients, including:

  • the Geriatric Assessment Unit
  • the Geriatric Outreach Team
  • St. Joseph's Community Health Centre
  • St. Peter's Hospital

A PGY3 Enhanced Skills program in the Care of the Elderly is also available.
