Internal Medicine
Internal Medicine is an important complement to Family Medicine as it provides a broad experience base in disease and disability in adult patients.
For residents doing this rotation in Hamilton, two months in the PGY1 year are spent on a general medicine ward in a CTU (Clinical Teaching Unit); whereas, residents based in our distributed sites will have this rotation within the parameters of their site.
Consulting internists and senior medical residents contribute to the teaching. Residents have the opportunity to learn how to coordinate patient care around a wide variety of Internal Medicine problems and actively share responsibility for the assessment, management and discharge of patients.
The PGY2 two-month experience has recently been modified to be a "Core Medicine/Surgery Selective". Residents will choose from a variety of options that can be found on our website under Postgraduate, PGY2 Rotation Information.
