MUSIC Primary Care Research Network (McMaster University Sentinel and Information Collaboration)

McMaster University Sentinel and Information Collaboration (MUSIC), is a practice-based research network (PBRN), composing a partnership with the Department of Family Medicine Information Technology (DFM IT) Group and the Department of Family Medicine Research Enterprise. MUSIC securely compiles data from the OSCAR Electronic Medical Record (EMR) to compose the MUSIC Database.  The MUSIC Database has individual identifying information removed, and supports research projects that are aimed at DFM’s commitment to effectiveness, innovation and quality in primary care delivery.

MUSIC is committed to projects that will provide sound and impartial evidence that will directly benefit McMaster Department of Family Medicine patients, the Hamilton community and the entire spectrum of primary care. For more information, please refer to the MUSIC Conflict of Interest Statement.

MUSIC contributes to the national collective called the Canadian Primary Care Sentinel Surveillance Network (CPCSSN). CPCSSN involves nine other practice-based research networks that all contribute certain de-identified EMR data to a national pool that provides epidemiological information on primary care.

To engage with MUSIC, please refer to the Request to MUSIC for Research Support, Participation or Data Form or contact MUSIC@FamMedMcMaster.ca for more information.

To learn about the MUSIC’s oversight, please see details related to the MUSIC Governance Committee.
