Trillium Primary Care Research Forum 2006

June 2, 2006, 8:30am to 3:30pm

Conference Highlights

The 2006 Trillium Primary Care Forum hosted by McMaster University, convened, as scheduled, on June 2, 2006 at the beautiful Royal Botanical Gardens, Hamilton. The conference attracted papers and presentations from scholars across South Western Ontario. Participants came from varied fields of family practitioners, nurses, research, and higher education.

2006 Trillium featured 38 concurrent research paper presentations on various aspects of Family Medicine. These included themes involving; cardiovascular health initiatives, obstetrics, palliative care, family practice, and patient reminders. The paper presentations were followed by a light lunch and keynote presentation by Dr. Richard Glazier. His seminar entitled "Is There a Place for Place in Family Medicine Research?” was extremely relevant and useful to those in clinical family practice and researchers alike. The afternoon incorporated four concurrent workshops. Participants could choose between; Using Geographic Methods to Examine Access to Care, Doing Qualitative Health Research with Hard to Reach Groups: Challenges and Strategies from a Qualitative Study with Immigrant Women, Quality Matters in Chocolate -- Why Not in Family Practice, Cluster Randomized Controlled Trials; Design and Analysis Issues. Each workshop dealt with a unique, specific aspect of family medicine research and taught participants varied techniques to utilize in the future.

A special thank you to our trillium conference planning committee; Graham Swanson, Janusz Kaczorowski, Michelle Howard, Tina Karwalajtys, Debra Lockey, Betcy Modoor, and Tsz-Lung Cheung for their hard work in organizing this event. The 2006 Trillium Primary Care conference was a success and we welcome your participation in coming years!
