Halton

Residents placed to this site will be based in the Halton McMaster Family Health Centre and community practices in Oakville, Milton, Waterdown, Carlisle, Burlington and Georgetown.  Enthusiastic  and dedicated faculty will ensure our residents receive excellent community clinical training opportunities in their practices and hospitals.

Residents will have the opportunity to work with interdisciplinary health professionals as part of Family Health Teams.  The Halton site promotes the role of the family physician in adult inpatient care.  Adult inpatient care is an important part of continuity of care, developing a sense of the medical community and developing  collegial relationships within the Halton site.  All preceptors and residents care for patients within the hospital.

PGY1 specialty rotations, which include Internal Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Emergency Medicine and Pediatrics, will take place at Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital in Burlington, or within the Halton Healthcare Services group of community hospitals (OTMH, Georgetown Hospital and Milton District Hospital).

As a group, residents will take part in Evidence Based Medicine, Behavioral Science tutorials, Quality Assurance tutorials, Academic Half Day, Resident Rounds, Interprofessional Rounds and Practice Based Small Group Learning.  Local block and horizontal electives may be available in Geriatrics, Sports Medicine, Psychiatric Outreach, Orthopedics/Fracture clinics, Dermatology, Minor Surgical Procedures, Radiology, Public Health, Diabetes Care, Palliative Care and Long Term Care.
