Kitchener/Waterloo

 

Residents in KW complete their residency within the new Waterloo Regional Campus area which incorporates Kitchener-Waterloo, Cambridge, Guelph, and surrounding communities. Rotations take place in the offices of community physicians and community hospitals. Faculty are dedicated to providing excellent clinical experiences to learners within a new curriculum that emphasizes an integrated focus on primary care.

Residency programs such as Evidence Based Medicine, Behavioural Science, Resident Rounds, Interprofessional Rounds, and Quality Assurance are conducted at the Centre for Family Medicine in downtown Kitchener. These sessions are conducted live or videoconferenced with the various McMaster residency sites.

Local block and horizontal electives are available in a wide range of areas including Sports Medicine, Refugee Health Clinic, Psychiatric Outreach, Memory Clinic, Anticoagulation Clinic, and Medical Student Clinical Skills Teaching.

Family Medicine rotations are conducted in Family Health Team settings with opportunities to work in an interprofessional healthcare environment. This model is the foundation for clinical care in the new Health Sciences campus which will incorporate learners in Medicine, Pharmacy, Optometry and Social Work.

The KW Family Medicine residency program offers a balance of hands-on community experience and an exciting new interprofessional academic setting in a friendly, welcoming environment.  Special interests of the KW faculty include:

  • Innovations in Interprofessional Care Models
  • Dementia and Mild Cognitive Impairment
  • Travel and Immunization Medicine
  • Global Health
  • Mobility Clinic for people with severe physical challenges
