David Healy MD
Born in Dublin, David Healy qualified in medicine from the National University of Ireland, before undertaking research on biomarkers in depression and training in psychiatry, later becoming the secretary of the British Association for Psychopharmacology. He moved to Cambridge England and then Cardiff Wales before moving to McMaster. His research interests lie in the history of medicine, where he has written the leading histories of the antidepressant, antipsychotic and mood-stabilizing groups of drugs, pharmacovigilance where he has played a part in raising the profile of suicide and sexual dysfunction inducing effects of a number of drug groups, and developments in healthcare systems, laid out in Pharmageddon (2012) and the forthcoming The Shipwreck of the Singular. He is a co-founder of RxISK.org, an online adverse event reporting website, and Data Based Medicine, which in conjunction with the Department of Family Medicine is supporting the development of TaperMD.
