Elaine Blau MD, CCFP, FCFP, FRRMS
Dr. Blau has been a part of the McMaster Department of Family Medicine since 2000, initially as a rural preceptor, then as Rural Stream Sites Director from 2004-2016, seeing the Rural Stream residency program triple within that time. While in this role, from ’04-’09 she provided patient care and resident supervision at McMaster Family Practice and the Maternity Centre of Hamilton. She then returned to her rural clinical work as a locum tenens in Mount Forest, Fergus, Tobermory/Lion’s Head, Inuvik NWT and Simcoe from ’10-’16. The experience of working across these settings greatly facilitated her educational and administrative role in rural residency training. She has participated in CFPC endeavours including national family medicine curriculum work in 2 centuries, 1992-1994 and in 2012-14 and task-force work on rural competencies in 2016. Today, Dr.Blau enjoys her memberships and connections within the SRPC & CFPC, her practice on the North Bruce Peninsula in both Lion’s Head and Tobermory, and championing rural generalism both locally and nationally alongside colleagues and learners. She and Brian have paddled Georgian Bay in each month of the year and have visited 60% of Canada’s National Parks – with a goal to reach all of them.
